Roberta Hunter is an environmental education con sultant in Lawrenceville, NJ. Her current work with parents and teachers brings together her background in child development with her extensive experience as an environmental educator. After earning a B.S. in Psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, she worked with young children in a variety of settings before stumbling upon the world of environmental education. She completed an internship at The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education in Philadelphia, and then continued there, working with inner city youth and running their mobile water quality program. Ms. Hunter was an instructor with The National Audubon Society’s Teacher Summer Residential Workshop in Connecticut, helping teachers from across the country understand the natural sciences and implement them in their classrooms. After receiving a Master of Science in Environmental Education, she worked for several years in the education department of the National Aquarium in Baltimore before moving to New Jersey in 2001. Ms. Hunter has been the Naturalist in Residence at Johnson Park School in Princeton, NJ for 9 years, and was an Education Specialist at the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association in Pennington. She started Acorn to Oak Environmental Education in 2004. She continues as Naturalist in Residence at Johnson Park, and also works as the Research Resident with Princeton Regional Schools’ Student Investigative Project, a student-directed research program for grades 3 – 5. She Ms. Hunter also works with local preschools and the SBMWA leading programs for children, teachers and parents. Her passion is helping adults realize the importance of nature to children’s lives and finding ways to connect children with their local environment. |
